Oneupweb in the Community

On the shores of Grand Traverse Bay sits Oneupweb’s corporate headquarters. We live in this town, we work here and we like it. And that’s why it’s so important to us to give back to our community.

  • One for the Road: Operation Michigan

Seven relentless Oneupweb employees, including CEO Lisa Wehr, hopped in Pearl, a 1970’s motor home, embarking on a five day tour of Michigan. Making stops in Ann Arbor, Lansing, Grand Rapids and Traverse City, Oneupweb set up shop in local parks and offered their online marketing consultation services and advice for free to any Michigan business that stopped by. Simply because it’s what they could do to help other Michigan businesses continue to survive and thrive. Want to learn more? • Smart Commute Week 2009 and 2010

In 2009 Oneupweb jumped on bikes and hit the trails, all in support of Traverse City’s 15th annual Smart Commute Week June 1-5, 2009. In the end, over 25,000 miles were traveled by all of the Commuter Cup team members (not just Oneupweb, sheesh) in a ’smart’ fashion this week, preventing over 20,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions during the 4-day period. And we took 2nd place in our division. Not too shabby. But in 2010, we decided to not only Smart Commute, but take our would-be gas money and donate it to the TART Trails to purchase bike helmets for kids. All in all, we raised $500 and took 1st place in our division.

  • The Salvation Army Shopping Cart Parade

It all started with the realization that food pantries need items donated at times other than Christmas. So Oneupweb decided to step in. The result was 38 shopping carts, 3 dogs, 840 boxes of rice, 420 boxes of spaghetti noodles, 720 cans of pears, 840 boxes of mac & cheese, 360 jars of peanut butter, 360 cans of soup, 1440 cans of tuna (say it with us, that’s a lot of tuna!), 840 containers of oatmeal and an inspirational trip down Bayshore Drive that was covered by 9&10 News. • Traverse City Film Festival

Independent movies, free nightly movies at the Open Space, the chance to meet directors and actors, and big names like Madonna, Phil Donahue and Michael Moore. The annual Traverse City Film Festival is an exciting event for our town, and one that Oneupweb is pleased to support. In 2008 we sponsored the Looney Tunes movie. In 2009, we’ve decided to take it a step further, signing on to become the Open Space venue sponsor. And we’re sure to have a little fun along the way.

  • UpGrade Our Schools

At Oneupweb, we’re all about having a good time. So when Suttons Bay elementary told us how much fun the students have acting and singing in plays, we jumped on board. With the UpGrade Our Schools program developed and financed by Oneupweb, first through fifth graders at Suttons Bay Elementary School know the thrill of preparing for opening night.

  • Aids/Lifecycle 7

When a cyclist told us he was going to bike from San Francisco to Los Angeles (545 miles) in seven days, we said, “you’re nuts.” And then we put our heads together to find a way we could get involved. The annual Aids/Lifecyle ride, with over 3000 participants, helps raise money to provide critical services to people living with HIV and Aids.

  • Volunteers of America Adopt-a-Family

Through the Adopt-a-Family program, Volunteers of America provides holiday gifts and meals to those who would otherwise go without. Oneupweb is a proud participant of this program.

  • What’s Playing at the State?

The State Theatre is located on Front Street in the heart of Traverse City. For years it sat empty until Michael Moore restored the movie theatre and opened it to the public. Today, it is a favorite among residents and tourists. And it’s completely run by volunteers, including Oneupweb. From taking tickets to making popcorn, we’re all happy to chip in.

  • West Senior High School Z-Club

Oneupweb sponsored a corporate table at the 2009 Traverse City Chamber Annual Dinner. When the West Senior High School Z-Club showed interest in attending, we donated several of our tickets to them. The students enjoyed listening to featured speaker David Stillman on generational issues in the workplace. One student said, “It was unique looking at what the other generations have to offer, and how my generation will be able to integrate our ideas and knowledge into the workplace”.

  • A Visit from TAG

The talented and gifted class from Traverse City Central Grade School spent an afternoon at Oneupweb. Students enjoyed a tour of the building and learned about search engine marketing from some of our resident pros.
