Small Business Innovation Award Finalists Announced
January 22, 2007 — Three Michigan small businesses have been named as finalists for the Small Business Association of Michigan's (SBAM) annual Innovation Award.
The finalists are:
- Mighty Key of Farmington Hills for their computer security device that plugs into a PC's USB port and provides secure internet surfing, encrypted, backed-up folders; and a remote databank. (Contact Cliff Hicks, 248.420.4398)
- PMC Environmental Technologies of Mt. Morris for their bio-remediation tank that replaces grease traps in restaurants. (Contact Ron Panter, 810.687.5600)

Criteria for the award include uniqueness, meeting a marketplace need, having an advantage over similar or previous versions and degree of benefit to the Michigan economy. The new, innovative product or service must have earned revenue for the first time during 2006.
The Innovation Award will be presented April 12, 2007, at the Michigan Celebrates Small Business (MCSB) event and dinner at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing. MCSB is a cooperative effort of SBAM, the U.S. Small Business Administration — Michigan, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center and the Edward Lowe Foundation. The lead sponsor for MCSB is National City. MCSB is also supported by the Accident Fund Insurance Company of America, Clark Hill PLC Attorneys at Law and IBM.
