Adobe Gets Flash on the iPhone
(Or the Next Best Thing).

Being Relentless™ means never settling for the next best thing—but since it’s just part of the title, we’ll let it fly. The votes have been tallied and this month’s most popular blog post, written by Oneupweb’s very own Flash Guru (aka Robert), covers Adobe’s recent announcement that Flash Professional CS5 is able to take ActionScript3 code and compile it as an iPhone app. (Whew, that was a mouthful.) And with that said, we’ll leave the rest of the explanation to our Flash Guru—he does a much better job. Check it out.

"Once, twice—two times a winner."

Corp!Corp! Magazine, Michigan’s largest business magazine, recently named Oneupweb a 2010 Best of Michigan Business, making this the second consecutive year Oneupweb has received this title. We live according to our tagline—Be Relentless™. And our twofold title goes to show just how far this mindset can take you.

"Man versus San Antonio."

Duncan WhiteDirector of Client Services, Duncan White, is like Oneupweb’s own Bear Grylls—always embarking on a new adventure. (Except his antics aren’t quite so death-defying and he usually lands in an airplane rather than parachuting out of one). But you get the point. So where’s his next destination? White will be featured as a guest speaker at the IFA’s 50th Annual Convention, taking place on February 5th-8th in San Antonio, Texas. On Saturday, February 6th, at 2:45pm CST, White will be providing audience members with valuable information on how to leverage social media for franchise sales. Will you be there? Let us know!

Listen to LisaHot Off the Desk of Lisa Wehr.

CEO, Lisa WehrIt’s twenty days into the new year. And it’s time for businesses to put their New Year’s resolutions into action. No, I’m not referring to your promise to pay tribute to the office vending machines less frequently or cut your coffee intake by half (although I highly discourage the latter). I’m referring to the changes you vowed to make in order to build a better, stronger business in 2010. Remember those? To those of you who are nodding your head yes—kudos. To those of you gazing at this question like a whitetail deer in headlights (pardon the tacky metaphor, we see a lot of these up here in northern Michigan), I’ll go ahead and give you your first business resolution for 2010. This year, it’s particularly critical to reevaluate your business’s social media presence. Why? Real-time search.

What is real-time search? It’s the no delay, now you see it and now you don’t, streaming updates section on a Google results page composed of news articles, blogs, tweets and more. So for example, let’s think of a burning topic in the news recently. Tiger Woods, anyone? If you type Tiger Woods into the Google search query, along with the routine results that normally appear, there is now a box entitled "Latest Results." Here, you’ll find abundant tweets, news articles and blogs streaming before you.

But what do real-time search results mean for your business? And what does this have to do with your business’s social media presence? Everything. Social media now plays a direct role in how and where brands appear in Google search results. Real-time search gives a whole new meaning to the impact of consumer generated media. Therefore, it’s critical to re-evaluate your business’s social media presence in order to ensure that what’s appearing in the real-time results is consistent with your brand identity and conducive to business growth.

Here are a few things to consider when assessing your business’s social media presence.

  • Determine your purpose. Do you have one? Or do you know what message your business is looking to convey through its social media presence? If not, it’s time to establish one.
  • Social media is a party and you’re the host. Conversation and engagement are vital to the success of social media campaigns. People are expecting you to interact with them through your social profiles. Don’t disappoint them.
  • Fresh is always better. Keep the content within your social profiles fresh. This way, when someone searches for your business, the real-time search window will reflect the most up-to-date information about your company.
  • Monitor what people are saying. This way, you’ll know what’s being said about your company in the real-time search results. And most importantly, you can respond in a timely manner.

And as always, if you need help getting started—contact us. We’ll be sure that every nook-and-cranny of your social media presence is perfected—and more. You can shoot me an email at info@oneupweb.com, request a proposal or give me a call at 877.568.7477. I look forward to speaking with you.

Crestline®: Getting Found on the Web.

We sat down and spoke with Larry Chasse, E-Commerce Manger at Crestline® about the greatest marketing challenge Crestline faces and the methods they’ve used to overcome it. In addition, Chasse shared some exciting new tools Crestline will be implementing into its marketing mix this year as well as some innovative ways Crestline is using social media to its advantage.

A Oneupweb client since 2007, Crestline is an industry leader when it comes to selling custom promotional products. From hand sanitizers to umbrellas to first-aid kits, Crestline knows no boundaries when it comes to custom merchandise. However, the competition within the custom promotional products industry is vast, which makes getting found on the web the greatest marketing challenge Crestline faces.

"We offer incredible customer service, consistency and once we have a client, we’re able to retain them," says Chasse. "But initially, getting found on the web is the biggest marketing challenge we’re faced with."

So how did Crestline overcome this marketing hurdle? With the help of Oneupweb, Crestline launched a pay per click (PPC) campaign nearly two years ago—and has experienced a great deal of success ever since. So much, in fact, that they (very) recently decided to expand their digital marketing efforts and implement search engine optimization (SEO) into the mix. Relentless? We think so. But it doesn’t stop here.

Crestline has also successfully harnessed the power of social media—and is currently utilizing social sites like Facebook and Twitter to obtain valuable customer feedback to apply to their business initiatives.

Whether it’s a suggestion for a new product, feature or tool—Crestline takes their customers’ suggestions very seriously. But that’s not the only way they’re using social media to their advantage. Crestline also uses their Facebook presence to provide consumers with special offers—another smart way to harvest the benefits of social media.

"People are talking about your brand and you need to become a part of the conversation," says Chasse. "And those businesses who do take advantage of social media will see great results in 2010."

We couldn’t agree more.

Crestline’s willingness to do what it takes to rise above the competition paired with their eagerness to try new things proves that they understand the power of being relentless. They’re bright marketers, driven by a commitment to their consumers and the overall success of Crestline, and we’re happy to have the opportunity to help them continue to grow and succeed in 2010.

Thanks for taking the time to speak with us about your marketing challenges, feats and goals. It’s been a pleasure!
