Mobile Search: The Future of Online Marketing?

Oneupweb has just released a white paper on the future of mobile search. "Mobile Search and Its Implications for Search Marketing" is the first detailed report on this exploding marketing channel--it's challenges, limitations and opportunities.

Oneupweb sees substantial and immediate opportunities in mobile search. The following bulleted highlights show our readers how to best take advantage of the growing potential in mobile search.

  • The "mobile web" requires websites to be written in either WML or XHTML.
  • SEO / SEM methods should address mobile search's unique time and space challenges. That means short search terms, short title tags, concise, relevant copy and more.
  • The vast majority of current-day mobile searchers fall within the 12-24-year-old range. Increasingly, however, executives and managers are using mobile search; they are the next wave of marketing opportunity.
  • Two major factions exist in mobile search: "The Need-It-Now Shoppers" and "The Killing-Time Shoppers." Each requires targeted marketing efforts.

SUCCESS STORY: SES

Conferences like SES (Search Engine Strategies), which was held in San Jose from August 8-11, 2005, are often harbingers of the industry--they hint at what's to come. This year's SES suggests two industry trends. One, search continues to grow like wildfire. Two, marketers are becoming more and more sophisticated about search's methods and benefits. Never before have so many attendees been able to "talk the talk" and "walk the walk."

This progress is due, in part, to the hard work of industry experts and highly regarded SEO / SEM firms that continually strive to bring marketing insight to the world of search. People are hungry for search knowledge. For example, Oneupweb's SEO Survival Guide, a pocket-sized book filled with SEO / SEM terms and information, was literally flying off the shelves at SES. Due to its success, Oneupweb is now offering a PDF version available for free download at Oneupweb.com. Long-time readers of this newsletter will be familiar with much of its contents. However, feel free to use it as a reference or pass it along to colleagues who are less familiar with SEO / SEM.

According to Kristie McCaw, Oneupweb's Paid Search Project Manager, "The SEO Survival Guide was a fantastic resource to bridge the gap between the professional jargon used by industry insiders and more common terms used by those just learning about the industry. It makes sure everyone's on the same page."
