Meet Emily Tewers, Jack of All Digital Content Trades

Name:

Emily Tewers

Position:

Digital Content Producer

What’s your average day like at Oneupweb?

There is no such thing as an average day at Oneupweb for me. In the last few weeks alone, I’ve superglued the head back onto a bobblehead that bobbled too hard, crawled into a wine tank to lay on a candlelit air mattress, and sourced flightless fruit flies – all for work purposes.

Tell us about a favorite Oneupweb moment.

There are so many to choose from. From playing Pizza Rollette* to freezing a credit card into a giant block of ice and then smashing it with a hammer, there’s never a dull moment around here.

What’s your favorite blog, and why?

The Hustle’s daily email is my favorite way to start the work day.

Another piece of content that inspires me year after year is Google’s Year in Search video series.

What makes Traverse City appealing?

Water. Ours is the prettiest, and we have so dang much of it that’s accessible to the public. Growing up here made me a total water snob – nowhere else will do!

What do you really do at Oneupweb?

Take pretty pictures of toilets. Concept social nuggets. Create engaging videos on how to change a light bulb. Write a little bit, then call it a day.

What do you do when you’re not at work?

Pet my dog, mostly.

If I’m doing anything outdoors, I’m happy. If I’m doing anything outdoors with my camera and my dog, I’m even happier.

If you were stuck on a desert island, what office tool would you bring and how would you make your deadline?

A camera. If I’m lucky, next quarter’s assets will be centered around desert islands.

Years from now, what will stick out most about 2019?

2018 was a year of big changes – got engaged, got married, moved to a different town, started a new job and got a puppy.

2019 is the year of small changes – more sunsets than Netflix, more listening than speaking and more string cheese than stress.

It’s 5:30 p.m. – what’s your cocktail of choice?

Gin and tonic with a lot of lime.

What’s the last song you intentionally listened to?

Grace” by The Hacky Turtles

What do you carry in your purse?

Usually, about nine clementines.

What’s your secret guilty pleasure?

Eating all nine clementines straight from my purse.

Favorite book/movie/album/TV show/etc.?

  • Book: “Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis
  • Movie: The Green Book
  • Album: The Head and the Heart’s very first album
  • TV Show: Arrested Development, The Office, Parks and Recreation and Queer Eye
  • Podcast: My Favorite Murder, The Dollop and Criminal

Tell us something weird/unique/quirky about yourself.

I’m a terrible baker. In one of my most infamous baking blunders I mixed up baking powder and cocoa powder, and the result was a very pale pan of brownies – and much mockery from my brothers.

What’s one of life’s simple pleasures?

A beach bonfire at sunset after a long summer day. Also, gummy vitamins.

The internet is listening: Give us some words to live by.

Be kind to everyone. Carbs won’t kill you, but not wearing sunscreen might. Care less what people think of you, put Parmesan on everything, and be a better person by the end of today.

*Pizza Rollette is a game in which one person cooks a pan of pizza rolls but leaves 2 or 3 aside while the rest bake. Then, with a few minutes left in the oven, they add the 2-3 frozen pizza rolls to the pan and let them cook for the remaining time (just long enough to get them slightly warm on the outside). Then all players gather together and pass the bowl of pizza rolls – each taking one per turn. A player loses when they draw a frozen pizza roll – and they must consume it in its entirety.
