Oneupweb : Feeding Your Blog
You’ve installed WordPress, customized your theme, performed a little SEO, and launched your blog. Now what to actually put onto your blog?
Fortunately, pushing content to your blog is incredibly easy with WordPress. Here are a two plugins you can use to keep your blog stocked with fresh content regularly.
FeedWordPress
“FeedWordPress is an open-source Atom/RSS aggregator for the WordPress weblog software. You set up feeds that you choose, and FeedWordPress syndicates posts from those sources into your WordPress posts table, where they can be displayed by your WordPress templates like any other post”
FeedWordPress is great for taking content you’re already putting out on the internet and generating post content. Pushing your tweets is as easy as dropping your feed into the plugin, and you can even generate post content from your Facebook posts with a PHP script to turn their JSON file into an XML feed that can be understood by FWP.
Postie
“Postie offers many advanced features for posting to your blog via e-mail, including the ability to assign categories by name, included pictures and videos, and automatically strip off signatures.”
You may or may not have already known that WordPress has a “post via email” function built into it so that you can update your blog with the single click of a “Send” button. Postie takes that core functionality and expands on it extensively, allowing you to update your site with rich multimedia content from your mobile device. Blog live from any location with photos uploaded immediately instead of waiting to get back to the office.
Later on this month I’ll be tackling how to convert Facebook’s Open Graph search results into a parsable RSS feed to be used with FeedWordPress. Check back here often!
