The Importance of Employee Training Programs

Posted on in Blog

Developing a flexible and purposeful employee training program supports an enriching environment for everyone. Through skill-building training, excellent communication, and a willingness to ask questions, Oneupweb dedicates its employee development and training program to build a place where learning is a priority, not a buzzword.

The Benefits of Employee Training and Development

Oneupweb is invested in the success of its employees. One of the ways they show this is by nurturing employees’ individual development. It’s simple: The more skilled people are, the better.

The Daily Read

We spend 30 minutes a day reading about things that are relevant to our industry or skill set and share it among the team when applicable. Growth is good, especially in an industry like ours, where things change rapidly.

Soak It All Up

We encourage employees to seek training from professional resources, other agencies, webinars, conferences, and any other type of method you can think of. The office takes care of the cost, and in return, they ask for one small thing: pass it on. After you get trained, teach the rest of us what you learned! Everyone grows together and we all benefit.

Why Is Employee Training Important for Avoiding Burnout?

When you attend a training session, you get a break from the day-to-day routine. No matter how hard you try to break the mold, things just turn into rote habits sometimes. Clients will always need work, the type of work will look similar at times, and Mondays will always be Mondays. Taking time from work to attend a workshop or conference or complete a certification helps break up some of that monotony. Without the daily repetition turning into a grind, we get the chance to rest the creative part of our brains and focus on shoring up technical skills. When we return to inventive work, the idea refresh lets the creative juices flow more easily.

Create a Space for Questions During Training (and Beyond)

One of the reasons we are so successful as an agency is that when we support individuals, we are really supporting the whole team. It boosts morale, makes the environment safe and comfortable, and encourages healthy conversation. Being able to talk comfortably about what you don’t know will open doors that fear keeps shut.

If you really want to see what a company’s culture is, watch what happens when someone doesn’t know something. Are they afraid to ask for help? Do others encourage them to seek help? Do they take the time to foster their own growth? Or do people see their weaknesses as an opportunity to invest in themselves personally? We foster an environment where asking questions is allowed, encouraged, and necessary for working at your best.

How to Build Company Culture Through Training

Dictated company culture training can feel stilted and awkward. That’s why we let things happen organically, during regular training and while sharing our individual findings. Building company culture remotely is especially difficult. When you can’t walk into somebody’s office or look over their shoulder during a meeting, it can be hard to feel that connection. That’s why we deliberately make space for personality during training. We may work off PowerPoint decks and sharing professional articles, but that doesn’t stop us from authentic (and sometimes hilarious) communication in Slack or in meetings.
