Meet Our New Videographer, Nate Totten
Name:
Nate Totten
Position:
Videographer
What’s your average day like at Oneupweb?
Right away, I was put to work on a ton of video projects. I love working with Rob, who is a talented filmmaker and animator, so our collaboration has been tons of fun.
Tell us about a favorite Oneupweb moment.
There have been a ton already, but my favorite so far is just how welcoming and nice everyone has been. It’s been an easy transition. The communication here is absolutely amazing!
What’s your favorite blog and why?
I tend to gravitate toward photo/video blogs. First thing I look at is Petapixel for great photography tips, tutorials, news, etc. Then I move over to Fstoppers for the video side.
What makes Traverse City appealing?
Traverse City is where I was born and raised. I have never lived here as an adult, and it feels like the right speed for me at this time of my life. I moved here for the career opportunity and to be closer to family. My main goal this summer is to get a tan! That will be a win if that can happen. Anyone out there have a jet ski they will let me borrow every day this summer so I can make that happen? The food and beer scene here is also pretty on point! I love beer!
What do you really do at Oneupweb?
I am always behind a camera trying to think of a better way to tell a story (or I watch YouTube video tutorials all day, haha).
What do you do when you’re not at work?
I have many hobbies and sometimes that can be the death of me. I’m always learning new skills in photography. My wife and I have been shooting tintype photography for almost five years now. Check out our portraits here. It’s one of the original forms of photography developed in 1851.
I’m also very passionate about medical cannabis and how to grow the amazing plant. I have seen so many positive benefits in my life since incorporating it into my daily routine (not before or during work, don’t worry!) I have become a more patient person and it really helps my chronic inflammation, which is especially an issue after a hard CrossFit workout.
CROSSFIT, CROSSFIT, CROSSFIT. Yes, I am one of those crazy people. I won’t shove it in your face, but truthfully, I love it. The community is amazing, and I have never had so much fun working out in my life! Oh yeah, it’s also made me very strong! If you need anything heavy carried, I’m your man, haha.
If you were stuck on a desert island, what office tool would you bring and how would you make your deadline?
It would have to be a camera. Even if I’m the only one to see the photos, I think it would keep me sane. Unfortunately, unless the island had Wi-Fi, I would be hitting no deadlines.
It’s 5:30 pm – what’s your cocktail of choice?
Any ice cold draft IPA. Space Dust IPA by Elysian Brewing is very good.
What’s the last song you intentionally listened to?
“This is America” Childish Gambino
Favorite Spotify/Pandora station?
I am horrible when it comes to music, so I normally go to a “Journey” station and hope for the best.
What do you carry in your purse/man-bag?
I go nowhere without a phone charger and a small snack (usually raw almonds). And I never leave the house without a camera!
What’s your secret guilty pleasure?
Watching “Teen Mom OG” with my wife. It’s addictive!
Favorite book/movie/album/TV show/etc. ?
Book: “A Wrinkle in Time” by Madeleine L’Engle
Movie: My top 3: “The Princess Bride,” “You’ve Got Mail ,” and “Pump Up the Volume”
Album: “All’s Well That Ends Well” by Chiodos
TV Show: My top 3: “Lost,” “Sense8,” and “Parks and Recreation.” Please do yourself a favor and watch “Sense8” if you haven’t. It will blow your mind!
Song: “Africa” by Toto
Tell us something weird/unique/quirky about yourself.
I converted a school bus into a tiny house and drove it across the county from Traverse City to Portland, Oregon. Check out the story here. Also I love cats way more than dogs. So, deal with it!
Describe yourself in 3 to 5 words.
Introvert with creative tendencies.
What would you not be caught dead wearing?
A fedora
What’s one of life’s simple pleasures?
Coffee
The internet is listening: give us your words to live by.
Don’t be a sheep. Follow your own internal passions and beliefs. Don’t give a F$@^ what anyone else thinks. Be excellent to each other, and … PARTY ON, DUDES!
