Meet Octavia Buss, a Woman of Many Hobbies
Name:
Octavia Buss
Position:
Account Manager
What’s your average day like at Oneupweb?
My average day at Oneupweb will have some combination of client calls, internal strategy meetings and talking through a new update or request with the development team.
Tell us about your favorite Oneupweb moment.
Such a hard question to answer – but I would have to say my favorite moment was this winter when us Account Managers got together for a virtual coloring and craft date. Was really awesome to connect with everyone outside of work and have a little fun while still being able to stay safe.
What’s your favorite blog, and why?
Fresh Exchange’s Garden Blog – they do such a great job at providing garden tips and stories in a way that inspires you to do more gardening and incorporate more local food into your habits, all while providing that inspiration in a way that makes it easy to make small changes.
What makes Traverse City appealing?
Traverse City is the perfect combo of city living and vacation life – those of us fortunate enough to live in the area are really able to take advantage of a whole different type of work-life balance that other cities just do not allow for.
What do you really do at Oneupweb?
I answer a lot of emails. Ha, no in all seriousness I would say that, by nature, I am a solutions-oriented person, which means my main focus is always problem-solving and troubleshooting for my teams and clients.
What do you do when you’re not at work?
I’m a board game junkie and I love organizing game nights with my friends/family. Luckily for me, I’m a super big fan of solo-play games that have alternative rules for playing alone, which means I don’t have to miss out on any board game time during this pandemic.
Years from now, what will stick out most about 2020-2021?
I happen to be the poster child for pandemic hobbies, 2020 will always be remembered as the year I got chickens … and a deep freezer … and a puppy … and a Peloton and learned how to make candles and bread, and … the list, embarrassingly, keeps going ….
It’s 5:30pm – what’s your cocktail of choice?
Anything from Tandem Ciders.
What’s the last song you intentionally listened to?
“Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd – on repeat.
What do you carry in your purse?
Dog treats and hand sanitizer.
What’s your secret guilty pleasure?
Not really a secret but I end every workday with a solo dance party in my living room; really helps kickstart the evening and switch your brain from work to play.
Favorite book/movie/album/TV show, etc.?
- Book – “The Boy Next Door” by Betty Cavanna – mostly because it reminds me of being a child with a big heart for books.
- Movie – “Poolhall Junkies”
- Album – “Futures” by Jimmy Eat World
- TV Show – “Sherlock” starring Benedict Cumberbatch
Describe yourself in 3 to 5 words.
Energetic, thoughtful, loyal, talks too much … oh you said only 3-5 words … oops.
What would you not be caught dead wearing?
A Lions jersey. GO PACK, GO!
What’s one of life’s simple pleasures?
Soaking in the magic that is Leelanau County. Sit me down anywhere – the beach, the woods, a cherry orchard, and I will be happily content just soaking it all in.
