Meet Sam Hovie, SEO and Content Marketing Specialist

After graduating from the University of Michigan in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science, I began my career at a white-label SEO firm, where I worked as a Technical SEO supporting a diverse portfolio of small and mid-sized businesses. In this role, I developed a strong foundation in search optimization, analytics, and technical website performance. Over time, I expanded my skill set through freelance web development projects, combining knowledge from my academic background with self-taught programming and design experience. My work has helped me approach digital marketing with both strong analytical thinking and creative problem-solving. I enjoy translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable strategies for clients. Today, I continue to build on this foundation as an SEO and Content Marketing Specialist, focusing on delivering thoughtful, results-driven content and strategies.
What’s your average day like at Oneupweb?
Each day starts with a light breakfast and a clear plan for what needs to get done. My time is typically split between client meetings, strategy research, content development, and editing. I also make a point of staying current by checking industry news and trends. The variety keeps things engaging and allows me to balance both creative and analytical work throughout the day.
Take a moment to brag.
I think outside the box. I enjoy challenges that require creative solutions and the process of finding them.
What is your best trait, and how do you use it to help your colleagues and clients?
My strongest trait is my ability to connect with people and meet them where they are. This helps me communicate ideas clearly, build trust with clients, and collaborate effectively with colleagues across different roles and skill levels.
What do you like most about Oneupweb?
The collaborative environment at OUW stood out to me right away and remains my favorite part of working here. There’s a genuine sense of teamwork, with people openly sharing knowledge, responsibilities, and support. It’s motivating to work alongside colleagues who are so committed to helping one another succeed.
What do you do when you’re not at work?
In the warmer months, I enjoy running, hiking, and camping with friends. I also enjoy writing and playing music at venues around the area with my band. In the winter, you’ll find me at the ski hill or on the Nordic trails, making the most of the cold and snow.
What are life’s simple pleasures?
Fresh air, sunlight, and spending time with family and friends.
Describe yourself in three words?
Patient, creative, and active.
