Tell us about a favorite client moment.

On a recent website redesign project a client contact sent an email with glowing feedback about the work one of our designers had done. Passing along that information, and seeing her reaction, was pretty awesome.

Tell us about a favorite Oneupweb moment in general.

One day I took a beating from a client, as they exposed my every weakness in the area of paid media. It’s a favorite moment because it ticked me off, and motivated me to dig in – I walked away saying, “This will never happen again.”

What makes Traverse City appealing? What are your favorite things to do/favorite places to eat, etc.?

For one, I grew up here – in Suttons Bay. What makes the area most appealing to me is knowing how much my wife and kids love it here. We are a six-minute walk from the beach, five minutes from the library, four minutes from a sledding hill, and two minutes from an ice cream shop.

What do you really do at Oneupweb?

Make sure projects are successful – and manage relationships along the way. The end result? Lots of email, talking and strategizing, and plenty of meetings.

What do you do when you’re not at work?

Spend time with my family, work with nonprofits, participate and volunteer with my faith community, and spend a lot of time reading.

If you were stuck on a desert island, what office tool would you bring and how would you make your deadline?

Begrudgingly, I would bring Outlook. It’s where most of my work is done – and the place where I can make sure projects hit deadlines.

Years from now, what will stick out most about 2014?

Moving my family back to northern Michigan.

It’s 5:30 PM – what’s your cocktail of choice?

Beer

What’s the last song you intentionally listened to?

Robert Plant – “Rainbow”

Favorite Spotify/Pandora/Grooveshark station?

Here are some of my 2014 favorites:

Elbow – “The Take Off and Landing of Everything”
The War on Drugs – “Lost in the Dream”
Bear’s Den – “Islands”
Conor Oberst – “Upside Down Mountain”
The Colourist – “The Colourist”
Needtobreathe – “Rivers in the Wasteland”
The Hold Steady – “Teeth Dreams”

What do you carry in your purse/man-bag?

What’s your secret guilty pleasure?

Rapping along to classic hip hop songs in my mini-van (ex. “It was all a dream, I used to read ‘Word Up’ magazine…”)

Favorite book/movie/album/TV show/etc…?

These are really tough to answer.

Book – “Anna Karenina” Tolstoy (fiction), “Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller” (non-fiction)
Movie – “Mystery Men”
Album – Too many, can’t decide
TV Show – “Breaking Bad”

Tell us something weird/unique/quirky about yourself.

I attended seminary, and enjoy theological conversations.

My dad grew up in the south, and my mom in central Illinois. We moved to northern Michigan because my dad was in the Coast Guard and was stationed at the air base in Traverse City.

What would you not be caught dead wearing?

Anything Boston Red Sox, Auburn Tigers, Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots

Skinny jeans

What’s one of life’s simple pleasures?

Making my wife and kids laugh
Reading a book
Drinking coffee
